Train Blocking Several RR Crossings in Las Cruces

A train vs. car collision at the intersection of south Main Street and west Union Avenue is expected to temporarily close several railroad crossings in Las Cruces for much of Wednesday evening.

The crash occurred about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the railroad crossing that intersects with west Union Avenue. The southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train collided with a vehicle where west Union Avenue crosses the railroad tracks.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

As a result of the crash, however, the BNSF train experienced a mechanical issue that will require an extended amount of time for repair. BNSF personnel anticipate the train to remain still until at least 8:30 p.m. and possibly even later Wednesday evening.

The BNSF train is at a standstill on the tracks between Watson Lane in Mesilla Park and Avenida de Mesilla in Las Cruces. Motorists can use those two crossings, on either side of the BNSF train, for crossing the tracks.
