Today (June 2, 2025), on Behalf of City Council, Mayor Eric Enriquez proudly presented Carmen Cano with a Certificate of Excellence in recognition of nearly 60 years of unwavering dedication to the students of Las Cruces.
Carmen began her journey in 1965 as part of the teacher’s aide pilot program, and from that moment on, she became a guiding light for generations of young learners. From helping children tie their shoes and learn their ABCs to supporting English language learners and comforting those experiencing their first day of school — Carmen has done it all with heart, patience, and grace.
Her impact is immeasurable, her commitment unmatched, and her legacy everlasting.
