A Las Cruces Digest Report
Thursday’s Weather-Related Incidents
Wednesday’s mayhem carried over to Thursday, as our broader community saw consistent snowfall through midday. While accumulation levels did not ice over most thoroughfares, there were still traffic complications to deal with. Wednesday saw a multiple-vehicle pileup west of Las Cruces on Interstate 10, closing traffic for eastbound travel while State Police and New Mexico Department of Transportation cleared the wreckage. It was also reported that wreckage stalled westbound traffic on I-10 west of Lordsburg. Details on both incidents were not publicly announced by State Police or NMDOT. On another major artery out of the city, the U.S. 70 Organ Pass prompted closing the mountain highway until nearly noon on Thursday.
By Thursday afternoon, notices started ringing from many governmental offices announcing early closings for the day. By 3 PM Las Cruces and Sunland Park city offices as well as Doña Ana County offices were closed. Las Cruces Public Schools continued the school day until the regularly scheduled dismissal after a delayed start. Las Cruces Catholic School executed an early dismissal and cancelled all after-school activities.
