District play is heating up in our broader community… and rivalries are growing in anticipation of what’s to come, next.
A Las Cruces Digest Report
District 3-5A Standings
(Not including October 15 Matches)
School | W-L (District) | Sets Won | Sets Lost | Streak |
---|---|---|---|---|
Las Cruces | 18-0(5-0) | 54 | 3 | 18W |
Centennial | 12-6(4-1) | 38 | 22 | 1L |
Organ Mountain | 9-8(3-2) | 33 | 34 | 1W |

Gadsden | 6-11(0-4) | 20 | 36 | 5L |
Alamogordo | 1-16(0-4) | 8 | 48 | 16L |
The last time the Bulldawgs lost a game was November 11, 2023. It has been almost a year since they dropped a match in five hard fought sets. The 3rd round loss would not deter them from eventually defeating Eldorado, La Cueva and Cibola (in turn) to climb from the Elimination Bracket to claim a State Championship.
This season, the Bulldawgs have been perfect, dropping a combined three sets for the year. Of course, Cleveland High School up North is garnering the lion’s share of press in Albuquerque as all eyes start to shift from District 3/5A play to the State Championships this November. Still, having watched this team play, their focus is squarely on their next match:
Las Cruces High School @ Mayfield, October 24.
The Centennial Hawks stand in second place in District 3/5A play. Furthermore, they are ranked 9th in the MaxPreps state rankings. A run at a district championship is not out of reach, but they would need a little help and a win in their rematch against district leader, LCHS. Their shot at District starts October 24 when they jump the mountains to take on Alamogordo.
Centennial @ Alamogordo, October 24
Organ Mountain is locked in a heated battle for third place in District 3/5A. Their recent 5-set victory over Mayfield at “The Castle” has them holding the third spot… for the moment. Both Mayfield and Organ Mountain have to face their district competitors one more time with their final scheduled game against Mayfield in November. The Knights next opponent will have them traveling into the south valley.
Organ Mountain @ Gadsden, October 24
Mayfield is coming off a hard-fought, five-set loss against Organ Mountain on Tuesday, and they can’t afford to stay down for long if they hope to take the third spot in District 3/5A. Unfortunately, they face off against the districts top two teams in their next two matches. On paper, it may look like they should be counted out; however, if they can keep their composure, they should regain parity with Organ Mountain by the time they meet again at the end of the season.
Las Cruces @ Mayfield, October 24
The score of Gadsden’s latest match against Alamogordo on October 22 still has not been reported, but even without the Panther’s last tally mark, they sit at or near the bottom of District 3/5A. Gadsden will host their third consecutive home match against the Organ Mountain Knights.

District 3-4A Standings
(Not including October 15 Matches)
School | W-L (District) | Sets Won | Sets Lost | Streak |
---|---|---|---|---|
Santa Teresa | 13-5(1-0) | 43 | 21 | 3W |
Deming | 5-10(1-0) | 18 | 34 | 2W |
Silver | 16-1(0-1) | 50 | 12 | 1L |
Chaparral | 10-8(0-1) | 35 | 28 | 1L |
The Desert Warriors of Santa Teresa High School opened district play with a four-set win over Silver High. Silver, having lost a single match so far this season sat as the District 3/4A favorite, but ran into immediate resistance when they traveled to Santa Teresa. The “Tribe” hopes to continue its district run against in-district rival Chaparral.
Santa Teresa @ Chaparral, October 26
The Lobos of Chaparral High School traveled to Deming, and were handed a loss in a five-set thriller on the road. Still, with a 10-8 overall record, Chaparral should not be counted out for district contention, having beaten class-up opponents Gadsden and Alamogordo earlier in the season.
District 3-3A Standings

Cobre | 12-6(1-0) | 40 | 22 | 4W |

Hatch Valley | 5-12(0-1) | 20 | 40 | 4L |
Socorro | 2-15(0-1) | 8 | 47 | 8L |
The Bears are sitting on the second worst overall record in District 3/3A play; however, it is too early in district play to know how the Hatch Valley High School volleyball team will respond. Their first (and only) loss in District has been against a tough Cobre team, and that match went four sets. The Bears host Hot Springs, next.
