Deputy Secretary Torres Small traveled to Chapada dos Guimarães, Brazil, this week, to take part in the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting and engage with fellow agricultural leaders from other G20 members, which is 19 countries as well as the African Union and the European Union.

Focusing on the G20’s 2024 theme, Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet, she and other international agricultural leaders underscored the need to improve the sustainability and resilience of agriculture and food systems by enhancing international trade, which is critical to global food security, and by expanding opportunities for small farmers, women, youth, indigenous peoples, and other underrepresented groups.
Deputy Secretary Torres Small also highlighted the United States’ historic investments in tackling the climate crisis, rebuilding America’s rural infrastructure, promoting cleaner and more affordable energy, creating new market opportunities for producers, and prioritizing equity and inclusiveness in program development and delivery.
