USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small meets with Rose Burke and her Family before the USDA Holiday Celebration in Room 108A in the Whitten Building, Washington D.C., Dec. 3, 2024. Rose, from Kenai, Alaska, won this year essay contest. Fourth-grade students from across Alaska were invited to describe in 250 words using the prompt: ”What would you like the country to know about Alaska’s Christmas tree this year and why it is so special?” She was chosen to come to Washington D.C. to read her essay and light the USDA Christmas tree.
