In his role, Tabet-Cubero leads the senator’s initiatives in the education sector, leveraging his experience as a former principal and teacher. During his visit, he assessed the school’s condition and met with the leadership of both the school and the White Sands Missile Range to tour the facility. He was accompanied by his colleagues: Ashley Beyer, the Southern New Mexico Regional Director for Senator Heinrich, and Majd Mawla, a member of the senator’s Washington D.C. staff.

“We are here to support however we can,” said Tabet-Cubero. “The senator is very clear on his direction to support the mission here at White Sands Missile Range, and that includes education.”

The meeting included Col. Donyeill A. Mozer, the White Sands Missile Range Garrison Commander, and his Sergeant Major, Command Sgt. Maj. Jamal N. Latore. Steve Rodriguez, Chief of Operations for Las Cruces Public Schools, and James Dickerson, Principal of White Sands School, were also present.

Tabet-Cubero and his team aimed to understand how their office could assist the school and identify its needs. Established in 1952, White Sands School is one of the oldest in the Las Cruces Public Schools district.

They discussed various funding options, including the Public Schools on Military Installations program. This program provides funding for constructing, renovating, repairing, or expanding public schools located on military installations to address capacity and facility conditions issues.

The senator’s team visited classrooms, engaged in conversations with students, and gained a thorough understanding of the school’s facilities. They also observed the available technology and noted the excellent maintenance of the facilities over the years, which is a result of the collaboration between the school’s leadership and White Sands Missile Range.
