Women’s Golf Completes Day One of the Bruin Wave Invitational

Bunch tied for 18th to lead the way for NM State.

VALENCIA, Calif. – NM State women’s golf wrapped up the opening day of competition at the Bruin Wave Invitational. Following 36 holes of action, the Aggies are a combined 54 strokes over par at the difficult Valencia Country Club – leaving them in 11th place with one round remaining.

In the opening round, the Aggies posted a 316 (+28) before narrowly improving to shoot a 314 (+26) in the afternoon. Host UCLA closed the day in the top spot on the leaderboard as they were the lone squad in the 12-team field to finish the day with a score in the red – shooting 574 (-2).

Individually, the Aggies were paced by junior Emma Bunch who shot a 76 (+4) in round one before returning to card a 74 (+2) in the second round. UCLA’s Frencesca Fiorellini will begin the final round with a four-stroke lead as she closed the day at 7-under.

Camille Pazouki would be the next Aggie on the leaderboard as she finished the day 16-over to sit in a tie for 52nd. Meanwhile Isabel Laulhé (+17) is tied for 56thAngela Garvin (+18) is tied for 62nd and Alexandria Armendariz (+21) is tied for 68th. Additionally, freshman Emma Thompson (+20) who is competing as an individual, sits in a tie for 66th.

NM State will return Tuesday for the final round of action at the Bruin Wave Invitational. Angela Garvin will be the first Aggie to go off as she will begin her third round at 9:47 a.m. MST. She will then be followed by Laulhé (9:58), Pazouke (10:09), Bunch (10:20) and Thompson (10:31).

NUMBERS OF NOTE

  • Including the rounds for all six Aggies, NM State finished the day with an average 18-hole score of 80.2.
  • The Aggies posted a total of 16 birdies across Monday’s rounds.
  • Emma Bunch finished with an average par-4 score of 4.15 which rank tied for eighth-best among the 72-woman field.
