Yarro Garners Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service Award

DALLAS – The Conference USA league office released its Fall Spirit of Service winners Friday morning and announced that senior center Canaan Yarro is one of nine honorees.

The award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport. The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with Friday’s honorees representing men’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and volleyball.

Yarro becomes the second NM State football player in program history to win this award. Yarro is also joined by Reagan Bridges (FIU – Women’s Soccer), Rudi Barnette (Jax State – Women’s Cross Country), Olivia Burrage (Kennesaw State – Volleyball), Elijah August (Liberty – Football), Zach Zimos (LA Tech – Football), Dana Hudson (Sam Houston – Women’s Soccer), Tionna Taylor (UTEP – Women’s Soccer) and Katie Hoaward (WKU – Volleyball).

Yarro, a Provo, Utah, native dedicated his free time to multiple community service projects such as NMSU Gratitude Walk, Holy Cross Field Day, Earth Day Trash Clean up, Casa de Pererginos Food Pantry and other opportunities with local schools. Earlier this season, Yarro earned Academic All-CUSA honors as he is currently maintaining a 3.99 grade-point average while majoring in communications. Yarro has also earned Crimson Scholar Athlete honors in all five semesters in which he has attended New Mexico State University.

He was also named Honorable Mention All-CUSA this season after starting all but one game while anchoring an offensive line which helped the Aggies finish fourth in the league in rushing yards per game (179.2).
