Mesilla CSI: Mesilla Marshals Training Unit Teaches Bullets and Blood

The Mesilla Marshals Training Unit recently hosted representatives from a half-dozen area agencies for a class on forensic approaches to reconstructing bullet trajectories and blood stain origination. The five-day event included topics as diverse as laser utilization and blood transfer patterns.

Forensic Blood and Bullet Trajectory Reconstruction Class

December 1-5, 2025

Agencies from the El Paso Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, Anthony Texas Police Department Crime Scene Unit, Eddy County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, TorC Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit, Sunland Park Police Crime Scene Unit, Horizon City Police Department Crime Scene Unit and Mesilla Marshals Crime Scene Unit attended and participated in lecture and several practical exercises.

All learned to identify blood spatter patterns, angle of impact, wipe and swipes, transfer patterns, blood in blood, movement of victim or suspect from the crime scene, stringing to determine origin, etc. They also learned bullet trajectory, angle of impact, what was the shooter’s position, gun shot residue, close contact to distance shots, the use of laser and photographing, and more.

All student passed successfully. Instructors were Sgt. Detective Danny Garcia and Lt. Tress Diaz.
