Joaquin Murillo, Deputy Director of Wastewater at City of Las Cruces Utilities, is pleased to announce that the East Mesa Water Reclamation Facility (EMWRF) has been selected as a 2026 recipient of the New Mexico Water and Wastewater Association (NMWWA) Good Housekeeping Award. The award will be presented to Mr. Murillo and his team at the NMWWA Annual Awards Banquet on January 28, 2026, at Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces.

The NMWWA Good Housekeeping Award recognizes facilities that demonstrate superior maintenance, management, safety, and overall professionalism, while acknowledging the hard work of operators and management teams that keep water and wastewater facilities in top condition across the State of New Mexico.
The East Mesa Water Reclamation Facility was built in 2009 in response to increased demand and development in the area. The facility can treat up to 1 million gallons of wastewater per day, producing high-quality (Class A) water used for landscape irrigation on golf courses, medians, parks, and schools, thereby reducing the need to pump fresh water.
