JM Famous Wynn delivered a front-running performance Saturday at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, earning her first career stakes victory in the 25th running of the $80,000 Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Stakes (G2) for New Mexico-bred quarter horses.

Breaking sharply from the rail in Race 8, JM Famous Wynn quickly took control of the 400-yard dash and was never headed under jockey Luis Martinez. The 4-year-old mare stopped the clock in 19.38 seconds, pulling clear in the final strides to secure the win.

Trained by Tony Sedillo for owner Carlos Soto Carrasco, JM Famous Wynn is a New Mexico-bred daughter of JM Specialwynn. Saturday’s victory marked her second consecutive win and the fourth of her career from 11 starts. She entered the race off an allowance win at Zia Park in November and had previously made just one stakes appearance, finishing off the board as a 2-year-old.

The win pushed her career earnings beyond $147,000 and represented Sedillo’s second stakes victory of the current Sunland Park meet. He also sent out Boot Scoots, winner of the Red or Green Stakes one week earlier.

Defending champion Flashtoglory finished second, with Big Daddy Farr crossing the line third. The race drew a full field of 12 and served as one of the early highlights of the quarter horse stakes schedule at Sunland Park.
