The 2025-26 scholastic athletics year officially came to a close this month as the New Mexico Activities Association and the New Mexico High School Coaches Association recognized the schools, coaches and athletic directors whose accomplishments stood out across the state.
The NMAA’s annual Nusenda Credit Union Directors Cup honors the top all-around athletic and activities programs in each classification, recognizing success across athletics, student activities, multi-sport participation and sportsmanship throughout the school year. This year’s recipients were La Cueva (Class 5A), Albuquerque Academy (4A), Cottonwood Classical (3A), Rehoboth Christian (2A) and Logan (1A).

While no school from our broader community claimed a Directors Cup championship this year, the region remained well represented. Centennial High School and Mesilla Valley Christian School each finished fifth in their respective classifications, placing among the state’s strongest overall programs after another competitive year.
Those standings reflect a school year’s worth of accomplishments. Across New Mexico, schools added to their championship traditions while coaches and student-athletes closed the books on another successful season. Locally, a handful of programs captured state championships, while many others were represented by individual athletes who reached the pinnacle of New Mexico prep competition. Together with record-setting performances and deep postseason runs, those accomplishments helped shape an athletic culture that enters the 2026-27 school year with considerable momentum.
The New Mexico High School Coaches Association also recognized several members of the local athletic community during its annual awards presentation.

Mayfield High School girls basketball coach Jeneca Maya Montoya received the inaugural “Coaches Changed My Life” Award, another statewide honor following her recent recognition as New Mexico’s Most Positive Female Coach by the Positive Athlete Organization.

Las Cruces Public Schools Assistant Athletic Director Bobby Campos was named the Southwest Region Athletic Director of the Year, recognizing his leadership and service to scholastic athletics throughout the district.

Mayfield High School softball coach Daniel Dominguez earned New Mexico Softball Coach of the Year honors after guiding another successful campaign for the Trojans.
As preparations begin for the 2026-27 season, those awards offer one final look back before attention turns to the first contests of a new school year. Last season’s trophies and honors now become part of the record, while every school, coach and student-athlete begins the next chapter with the same objective: building toward another opportunity to compete for the championships still to come.
