Activity announced for Sat., Feb. 21, 12-1:30 p.m. at Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site in Mesilla, New Mexico, for a program that will teach you about techniques for creating art with the popular material made of paper and glue known as papier-mâché.

Ranger Daniel will discuss the work of artists in the Southwest and Latin America who use papier-mâché to produce elaborate sculptures, expressive masks, and fantastical creatures known as alebrijes. Participants will see stunning examples of folk art in the site’s collection while learning about how papier-mâché became a part of regional traditions and cultural celebrations. They will also receive a kit with instructions and supplies for creating your own original piece of art.
