After searching for a win to get back on track, the Aggies found one in emphatic fashion on the road, knocking off an LA Tech team that entered the contest 11–1 at home with a 72–63 victory. NM State now looks to carry that momentum into the infamous “Battle of I-10” as the Aggies head to El Paso to take on longtime rival UTEP on Saturday night at 7 p.m. MT for the first of two meetings this season.
In the teams’ most recent matchup, NM State dropped a tight 66–63 decision to the Miners at home on Feb. 8 of last season.
THE BATTLE OF I-10
Saturday’s matchup marks the 226th meeting between NM State and UTEP in one of the longest and most historic rivalries in college basketball, dating back to Feb. 10, 1915. The Aggies hold a 121–105 advantage in the all-time series, including a 64–43 mark in Las Cruces and a 56–62 record in games played in El Paso.
Last season, the rivalry series was split 1–1, with both teams earning wins on the opponent’s home floor. NM State’s lone victory came in El Paso in emphatic fashion, as the Aggies delivered one of the most decisive road wins in program history with an 85–57 triumph in front of more than 12,000 fans. The Miners responded with a gritty 66–63 win in Las Cruces.
