Alamos got rolling down the center of the racetrack under jockey Christian Ramos and prevailed by a neck in Saturday’s 23rd running of the $80,000 Pepsi Cola Stakes at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.
Owned by the Tungsten Racing Partnership and trained by Tony Sedillo, Alamos found his best stride in the final yards of the 350-yard event, proving best in an impressive final time of 16.966 seconds, earning an Equibase Speed Index of 103.

Bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms, Alamos was a $185,000 purchase from the 2023 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Yearling Sale. The 4-year-old son of Eye Am King came into the Pepsi Cola Stakes off a win against open company at Zia Park in the Lovington Stakes last time out. Saturday’s win improves Alamos’ lifetime mark to seven wins from 16 starts with earnings of more than $168,000. He earned $48,000.
Sent off as the 7-to-5 post time favorite, Alamos returned $4.80 to his winning backers. The $2 exacta with Jesses Wish paid back $22.40. Pavel settled for third with The Calling rounding out the top four finishers.
JM Famousberry and Pick Your Pour were both scratched from the race earlier in the day, reducing the Pepsi Cola Stakes field to nine runners.
