Golf: Emma Bunch Earns CUSA Golfer of the Week; NMSU Takes 8th at Bruin Wave Invitational

Bunch tied for ninth place at the Bruin Wave Invitational in Valencia, Calif., against a field that included No. 1 Stanford, No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 12 UCLA.

DALLAS – New Mexico State’s Emma Bunch and Liberty’s Andrew Gregory have been named Conference USA’s Golfers of the Week.
 
Energy Transfer CUSA Women’s Golfer of the Week – Emma Bunch, NM State – Sr. – Lynge, Denmark 
Bunch tied for ninth place at the Bruin Wave Invitational in Valencia, Calif., against a field that included No. 1 Stanford, No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 12 UCLA. Bunch turned in her 20th top-10 finish of her career, carding rounds of 75-70-71 (215) to finish tied with No. 36 Eunseo Choi of Pepperdine and ahead of three individuals ranked inside the top 100. Overall, the Denmark native ended the tournament ranked tied for seventh in the field in total birdies with 12.

CUSA Men’s Golfer of the Week – Andrew Gregory, Liberty – Jr. –Inman, S.C.
Gregory led Liberty’s individual performers at the Coach Sykes Individual tournament, hosted by NC State on February 21-22, though the event was shortened to a 36-hole tournament due to inclement weather. The junior finished tied for third in the 76-man field with a 7-under par 135 (66-69). He tied for fourth in the field in both birdies (10) and pars (27) and ranked third-best in the field with only three bogeys in 36-hole of action. The tournament field included individual golfers from programs like Tennessee, Virginia, NC State, South Carolina, Charlotte, Notre Dame, Kent State and UNCW.

Aggies finish 8th; Bunch records 20th top-10 finish of career

VALENCIA, Calif. – The NM State women’s golf team concluded its run at the Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday at Valencia Country Club, finishing eighth in a competitive 14‑team field. The Aggies posted rounds of 302, 300 and 312 to finish with a 54‑hole total of 914 (+50).

Senior Emma Bunch once again paced the Aggies, delivering rounds of 69, 72 and 74 to end the week at 215 (-1), earning a tie for ninth place among the 80‑player field. This marks another top‑10 finish for Bunch, who kicked off the final spring season of her illustrious collegiate career.
 
Junior Alexandria Armendariz posted a strong second‑round 70, before closing with an 80 to finish at 230 (+14), placing her T35. Matching her efforts was freshman Rylee Salome, who opened with 74–76 before an 80 in the final round placed her at 230 (+14) and in a share of 35th.
 
Sophia Luna delivered her strongest round of the week on Tuesday, firing a 78 to finish at 244 (+28) and in a tie for 72nd overall. Two strokes back was senior Marley Moncada, who wrapped up her tournament with an 81 to close at 245 (+29), finishing 74th.

The Aggies battled through one of the toughest fields of the spring, which featured No. 1–ranked Stanford, who won the event at 843 (-21)—along with nationally ranked programs from the Pac‑12, Big Ten, Big West and West Coast.
