Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez released the below statement today following the publication of a New York Times investigative report that Cesar Chavez had allegedly sexually abused multiple girls and young women, including prominent labor and civil rights leader Dolores Huerta:

“The allegations reported today regarding Cesar Chavez are deeply concerning. Survivors of abuse deserve to be heard and treated with dignity, and their experiences must be taken seriously. As Attorney General, I have always stood with victims and survivors and remain committed to holding abusers accountable wherever the law allows. Abuse and exploitation are never acceptable, regardless of who is involved. I commend Dolores Huerta for her courage in speaking out, and my thoughts are with her and with all those who may have been affected.”
