Las Cruces Board of Education to Hold Special Session on Cesar Chavez Elementary School Name April 8

The purpose of this special meeting is to gather public input on the possible removal of the name Cesar Chavez from the elementary building on Holman Road.

Las Cruces Public Schools will hold a special session of the Board of Education on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Elementary School, 5250 Holman Road. 

The purpose of this special meeting is to gather public input on the possible removal of the name Cesar Chavez from the elementary building on Holman Road. The Board is seeking to better understand community sentiment and will welcome feedback from students, staff, families, and community members.

Because the agenda is focused solely on the potential removal of the school’s name, public comment during the meeting will be limited to this topic only. 

Community members who wish to provide input may do so in person at the April 8 meeting or by submitting comments via email to input@lcps.net. All feedback received through email will be compiled and shared with the Board of Education for consideration.
