Track & Field: NM State Notches Strong Performances in Trio of Meets

SAN MARCOS, Texas / STANFORD, Calif. / SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – NM State returned to action, splitting the team across three different meets – the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, the Stanford Invitational in Stanford and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, hosted on the campus of San Francisco State.
 
THURSDAY
 
Opening the weekend’s action at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State University, Sara McKee tallied a new personal best in the 100m ‘B’, posting a time of 12.50 seconds.
 
Aja Johnson was the lone Aggie to compete in the long jump, notching a best distance of 5.48 meters (17-11.75″).
 
Johnson later competed in the 200m ‘B’, posting a wind-adjusted time of 24.99 (+3.1 m/s).
 
FRIDAY
 
Marlee Cavitt tallied the top finish among Aggies in the 200m in San Marcos, finishing third-overall with a wind-adjusted time of 23.55 (+3.1 m/s). Jaylah McDonnell posted a time of 24.37 (+3.9 m/s).
 
In San Francisco, Trista Cordova’s 5000m time of 17:59.86 (a new personal best) led the Aggies competing in the event, while Abigail Beam saw a massive jump in her time, posting a new best of 18:41.73.
 
Jordan Torres and Murrie Dodge suited up for the Crimson & White in the 3000m Steeplechase, with Torres tallying a season-best time of 11:07.86 and Dodge posting a result of 11:29.71, also a season best.
 
Rounding out the action at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, Adéla Steinsová’s 1500m time of 4:32.48 led the team, representing a personal best and the new 10^th-fastest time in program history. Fellow first-year Aggie Eloïse Stuart also notched a new best time (4:36.83).
 
 
Over on the campus of Stanford University, Nia Allison and Amanda Radava competed in the 1500m – where Allison secured the top time in her heat with a finish of 4:24.22, a new best, and Radava secured an NM State best time of 4:24.81, taking fourth in her heat. These times now rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in school history.

SATURDAY
 
Back in Texas, Jaylah McDonnell was the sole Aggie entrant in the 100m, while Sara McKee was the lone Crimson & White member in the 100m hurdles, posting a time of 12.50 – a new personal best for the third consecutive week.
 
A quartet of Aggies took to the 800m in San Francisco, with Amanda Radava recording a sixth-place finish, with a time of 2:07.76. This improves Radava’s new personal best to the third-fastest time in program history, behind Thulisile Amon (2:05.42) and Rachel O’Brien (2:06.54).
 
Eloïse Stuart notched her second personal best of the weekend, posting a time of 2:10.26 – the seventh-quickest in NM State history. Adéla Steinsová achieved the same with her new best time of 2:11.54, while Angela Korte posted a season-best time of 2:17.49.
 
A quartet of Aggies competed in the rare outdoor mile run, where Jordan Torres led the way with a time of 5:14.27. Abigail Beam (5:17.52), Brooke Kelly (5:19.76) and Murrie Dodge(5:20.00) rounded out the meet and the weekend’s official action.
 
Men’s Events
NM State men competed in a select group of events, including the 5000m in San Francisco, where Orion Chavez recorded the top time, a new personal best of 14:37.74. Andrew Gibby (14:41.81) finished second among Aggies, while Leo Valenzuela (14:53.33), Angel Maese (15:08.15) and Gabriel Uranga (15:25.72) tallied new bests in the event.  
 
Nick Valle made his NM State debut on Saturday in the 10,000m, posting a mark of 31:48.87 – the fifth-fastest in school history based on available data.
 
Thomas Croshaw was the lone Aggie on the men’s side to compete at the Stanford Invitational, competing in the 10,000m – an event rarely run by the Crimson & White in recent years. Croshaw’s time of 29:00.78 is the fastest in program history, according to available data.
 
Seven Aggies competed in the mile run to close the weekend, with Andrew Gibby’s event debut time of 4:12.12 leading the pack. Orion Chavez (4:16.90) finished second among Aggies in his event debut, while Leo Valenzuela (4:22.36) and Gabriel Uranga (4:29.32) posted personal bests. Kobe Rodriguez (4:23.93) and Angel Maese (4:28.46) also debuted in the mile.
 
UP NEXT
The Aggies return to the Borderland for the Sun City Classic, hosted by UTEP. The one-day meet is set for Saturday, April 11.
