Las Cruces Police: Retired Officers Encouraged to Apply

Laws that govern the Public Employees Retirement Association of New Mexico allow public employees who retired before Dec. 31, 2023, and have been retired for less than eight years, to return to work for many public safety positions, including police officers.

The Las Cruces Police Department is accepting applications for PERA New Mexico retired law enforcement officers.
 
Retired officers selected are eligible for up to $35,000 in recruitment, retention and relocation incentives and 40 hours of annual leave upon hire. Salaries for retired officers returning to LCPD range from $30.28 to $43.68 per hour, depending on experience.

Laws that govern the Public Employees Retirement Association of New Mexico allow public employees who retired before Dec. 31, 2023, and have been retired for less than eight years, to return to work for many public safety positions, including police officers. The law allows retirees to receive their earned pension, cost-of-living adjustments and their new salary for up to 36 months after returning to work.
