Rascon continues to give back to that pipeline. In January 2026, Doña Ana County, in partnership with DACC, launched a Water Technology Program internship that provides students with mentorship and hands-on experience in utilities and wastewater operations. Rascon oversees the program, helping guide students as they gain real-world experience and prepare for careers in the field.

“This is a well-deserved honor of Mireya’s career that reflects a strong commitment to public service and to the community she serves,” Assistant County Manager Stephen Lopez said. “She is an outstanding advocate for safe water and wastewater, and we greatly appreciate all she has done to expand the county’s utility system and capabilities.”
