Baseball: NM State Pushes Sam Houston Late Before Falling 12–10

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State mounted a furious late comeback bid Sunday afternoon at Presley Askew Field at Johnson Stadium, but Sam Houston held on for a 12-10 win. With the loss, NM State drops to 16-22 overall and 7-11 in league play.

NM State struck early, scoring three runs in the opening frame. Aidan Taclas reached on a walk and later came in to score on a wild pitch. Additionally, Chris Danielsdoubled before later crossing home on a Jonatan CloughRBI single. Easton Rulli followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the early advantage.

The Bearkats eventually tied the game in the third before the Aggies regained the lead thanks to a pair of wild pitches, pushing the home side ahead 4-3. Sam Houston then took control as it added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to move in front 9-4.

The Aggies found some rhythm in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to trim the lead. In the sixth, Dane Woodcookand Boston Vest tallied singles and then came in to score on RBI singles from Aidan Taclas and Camden Kaufman, respectively.

The Bearkats pulled away with a big eighth inning, plating three runs to push their lead to 12–7 and put pressure on the Aggies heading to the final frame.

NM State refused to go quietly in the ninth. After loading the bases, Tommy Meluskey delivered a bases‑clearing triple down the right‑field line, scoring Jonatan Clough, Camden Kaufman, and Easton Rulli to bring the Aggies within two runs. The tying run reached the plate before Sam Houston was able to close out the game. Collin Aloisio earned the win in relief for Sam Houston, while Jack Turner took the loss for NM State.

NOTABLES

• Tommy Meluskey delivered his team-high tying third triple of the season. With this, the Aggies continue to pace the nation in triples with 18 on the year.
• Meluskey also finished the game with three RBIs to mark the second-highest RBI total of his redshirt sophomore campaign.
• Jonatan Clough, Boston Vest and Chris Daniels each recorded hits to push their streaks to six games to mark the longest active hitting streaks for the Aggies.
• Aidan Taclas logged his 12^th multi-hit game of the year to sit one game back of Steve Solorzano for the team lead.
• The loss marked just the second time this season the Aggies have fallen in a game that they scored eight or more runs. It also marks the first time since April 26, 2025, that the Aggies tallied double digit runs in defeat.
• Camden Kaufman earned two stolen bases to mark the second time this season he recorded multiple stolen bases in a single game.
