As part of Volunteer Appreciation Month, the City of Las Cruces is recognizing volunteers who supported residents this tax season through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program hosted at city libraries.
According to the city, volunteers contributed time and expertise to help community members prepare and file taxes accurately, providing a public service during the filing season.

A Form of Civic Service
While often associated with parks, public events, or neighborhood projects, city officials noted volunteer service also includes less visible but highly practical support—like helping residents access financial and tax assistance resources.
In this case, that support came at a time when many households were managing filing deadlines, refunds, or tax questions.
