White Sands Soldiers inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara

Three 2-6 Air and Missile Defense Test Detachment Soldiers were inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara April 28 at Army Community Service Building.

Sgt. 1st Class Jerome Bonduh, Staff Sgt. James Dagon and Staff Sgt. James Grace were all inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.

Capt. Lukas R. Hartlage, AD Commander, 2-6 Air and Missile Defense Test Detachment, thanked everyone for their support.

“It is my distinct privilege to recognize leaders within this unit who have dedicated so much to the air defense branch,” Hartlage said.

The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara is a military honor society dedicated to recognizing individuals who have demonstrated outstanding integrity, moral character, and professional competence within the artillery community. Named after Saint Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen, this order honors those who have significantly contributed to the promotion and support of the Field Artillery branch of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.

To be considered for the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, candidates must meet several criteria:

• Integrity and Character: Candidates must exhibit the highest standards of integrity and moral character.
• Professional Competence: They should display an outstanding degree of professional competence in their duties.
• Selflessness: The individual must have served the Field Artillery with selflessness and dedication.
• Significant Contributions: Candidates should have made notable contributions to the promotion of the Field Artillery, recognized by their peers and superiors.

Saint Barbara is revered for her protection against dangers such as thunderstorms and explosions, which historically made her a figure of hope for artillery crews facing the risks associated with early artillery technology. The order serves to uphold the traditions and values associated with artillery service, fostering a sense of camaraderie and recognition among its members.
