Mesilla Valley Christian closed its 2026 baseball season Saturday afternoon by capturing the Nusenda Credit Union State Baseball Championship in decisive fashion, overwhelming Hozho Academy 22-0 in the title game to bring the Blue Trophy back to southern New Mexico.

Unlike many championship games that slowly tilt in one direction, this one was never in doubt. The SonBlazers overwhelmed the Wolves from the opening innings, pairing dominant pitching with relentless production at the plate to cap one of the strongest seasons in program history.

On the mound, Zach Beasley and Liam Poppy combined to keep Hozho Academy scoreless throughout the championship matchup. Beasley worked three innings while allowing just two hits, while Poppy added two more shutout innings to close the game.

At the plate, the SonBlazers turned the title game into an offensive avalanche. Beasley reached base in four of five plate appearances while driving in three runs, adding both a triple and a double. Poppy reached base in all four of his appearances and added three RBI of his own.

By the end of the afternoon, the SonBlazers had piled up 22 runs while consistently filling the bases and forcing Hozho Academy to play from behind the entire game.

The SonBlazers recorded numerous lopsided victories throughout the season and entered the postseason as one of the classification’s most dangerous lineups, but it was unexpected to see Mesilla Valley Christian secure its most lopsided win the Class 2A championship game.

If there was any doubt when the SonBlazers stepped onto UNM’s Lobo Baseball Field at 9:30 Saturday morning, they wasted little time erasing it. The Blue Trophy is headed home with Mesilla Valley Christian.
