This year’s Leadership Las Cruces class visited the range on May 15, where participants received a behind-the-scenes look at operations on the installation, met with leadership, and took part in hands-on team-building exercises — including rappelling from the training tower.

According to a post shared by White Sands Missile Range, participants also had the opportunity to speak with Col. Donyeill Mozer, the WSMR Garrison Commander, during the visit.

The Leadership Las Cruces program, sponsored by the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, is designed to support professional development and leadership growth within the local business and nonprofit community.

Last year’s visit to the range included demonstrations from the 3-6 Air and Missile Defense Test Detachment, as well as teamwork and confidence-building exercises led by experienced instructors. Participants also met with then-WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. George Turner to discuss leadership, personal vision, and community impact.

“I thought I was just going to learn the history of missiles,” said Marco Olvera of Casa de Peregrinos Food Pantry during the 2025 visit. “Coming in here and actually getting to see some of the training, some of the extensive knowledge and camaraderie of the soldiers, it is amazing to see.”

Olvera also spoke during last year’s event about expanding the food pantry’s reach throughout the region, including projects in Chaparral and the Sunland Park area.

The annual visit continues to serve as a bridge between military personnel and professionals from throughout the Las Cruces area, offering participants a closer look at the range’s mission while emphasizing teamwork, leadership, and community connection.
