May 22, 2026 marked a historic milestone for the New Mexico National Guard and the State Partnership Program.
With the signing of a new partnership agreement between the New Mexico National Guard and the Mauritius Police Force, Maj. Gen. Miguel Aguilar has helped open a new chapter in New Mexico’s engagement on the global stage.
This partnership extends far beyond a ceremonial agreement—it establishes a long-term relationship built on trust, shared expertise, and mutual commitment to security, disaster response, and resilience.
The State Partnership Program has long proven that enduring relationships between military and security organizations create stronger, safer, and more capable partners.

Through professional exchanges, training opportunities, and collaborative planning, the men and women of the New Mexico National Guard and the Mauritius Police Force will learn from one another while strengthening their ability to respond to emerging challenges.
Located in the strategically important Indian Ocean region, Mauritius serves as a key partner in promoting regional stability, maritime security, and disaster preparedness. This new partnership creates opportunities for meaningful engagement while fostering the people-to-people connections that are the hallmark of the State Partnership Program’s success around the world.
The New Mexico National Guard’s mission extends beyond our state’s borders, building partnerships that enhance security, strengthen resilience, and advance mutual understanding around the globe.
