Yesterday marked the completion of a major roadway improvement project near Mesilla as officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the NM 101 University Roadway Reconstruction Project.
Construction on the project began in December 2024 and focused on improving safety, accessibility, and traffic flow along NM 101 (University Avenue) between Avenida de Mesilla and South Main Street.
Project improvements included widening the roadway, installing new curb and gutter infrastructure, constructing new sidewalks and a multi-use path, and adding Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps and accessibility features.
Officials said the project represents a significant investment in transportation infrastructure while supporting future growth and connectivity in the area. The improvements are expected to benefit motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and nearby residents traveling through one of the region’s key transportation corridors.

Community leaders and project partners recognized the collaboration between state and local agencies, contractors, and community stakeholders that helped bring the project to completion.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony formally marked the opening of the reconstructed corridor following approximately 18 months of construction work.
