One of southern New Mexico’s most popular summer traditions depends on more than moonlight and music. It also depends on volunteers willing to lend a hand after the crowd goes home.

White Sands National Park is seeking a small team of volunteers to help clean up and restore its amphitheater area following the park’s June Full Moon Night event.

The volunteer opportunity is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, June 30, following the Full Moon Night program planned for Monday, June 29. Participants can expect to spend about three hours helping dismantle event infrastructure and preparing the area for normal park operations.

Volunteers will receive a brief safety orientation before work begins.

According to park officials, duties will include collecting traffic cones, rolling up accessible walkway mats, assisting with stage breakdown and picking up litter in and around the amphitheater.

The Full Moon Night series has become a favorite seasonal event for residents and visitors alike, offering an opportunity to experience the gypsum dunes under the light of a full moon while enjoying evening programming in the park’s outdoor amphitheater.

The cleanup effort provides community members with an opportunity to support the event behind the scenes and help ensure the venue remains ready for future programs.

Those interested in volunteering can learn more and submit an application through the National Park Service volunteer portal.
