Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Southern New Mexico celebrated the groundbreaking of its future headquarters on June 5 within the Las Cruces Innovation and Industrial Park (LCIIP).
According to organizers, the facility will serve as a permanent home for the organization and its apprenticeship and workforce development programs. Leaders said the project is intended to support the region’s electrical industry while expanding opportunities for students and apprentices pursuing careers in the skilled trades.
The new headquarters will be located within the Las Cruces Innovation and Industrial Park, a growing employment and industrial center on the city’s west side. Supporters of the project said the presence of a trades apprenticeship chapter within the park reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen workforce development, create jobs and support long-term economic growth throughout Southern New Mexico.
Several local and industry leaders participated in the groundbreaking ceremony, including Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez, Preston Williams of NA First Valley, Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance President and CEO Davin Lopez, IEC Southern New Mexico President Tim Shaffstall, and National IEC President Don Sharkey.
The project represents another investment in workforce training infrastructure as regional employers continue seeking skilled workers in the construction and electrical trades.
