In Las Cruces, local filmmakers recently celebrated the premiere of Shark Thrash! at the Rio Grande Theatre, drawing a packed audience and bringing cast and crew members together to discuss the making of the film. The event served as a reminder that filmmaking in New Mexico extends well beyond major studio productions and includes a growing community of independent creators.

At the same time, the New Mexico Film Office highlighted the career of actor Nicholas Galitzine, who appeared in the television series Chambers, filmed in New Mexico in 2018, before going on to star as He-Man in the newly released Masters of the Universe. The Film Office also reflected on Cry Macho, filmed in New Mexico and directed by legendary filmmaker Clint Eastwood, whose decades-long career has helped shape modern cinema.

Taken together, the projects illustrate the breadth of New Mexico’s film industry. From local independent productions and emerging actors to major studio projects and celebrated filmmakers, the state continues to serve as a place where stories are created, careers are launched, and cinematic history is made.
