Summer Camps Continue Across Las Cruces as Youth Programs Focus on Skills, Leadership and Personal Growth

While summer vacation is well underway, opportunities for young people to learn new skills, stay active and explore future interests continue throughout Las Cruces.

From athletic camps hosted by Las Cruces Public Schools to specialized programs offered by local businesses, students still have a variety of opportunities available during the weeks ahead. Whether a child is interested in sports, entrepreneurship, theater, fitness or leadership development, organizers say summer programs can help build confidence, encourage teamwork and introduce participants to new experiences outside the traditional classroom setting.

High School Athletic Camps Continue Through July

Several Las Cruces Public Schools athletic programs will host youth camps throughout the remainder of June and into July, providing instruction from local coaches and student-athletes while helping participants develop sport-specific skills.

Remaining camps include soccer, football and volleyball programs hosted by Las Cruces High School, Organ Mountain High School, Centennial High School and Mayfield High School.

Organizers say these camps provide opportunities for young athletes to improve fundamentals, remain active during the summer months and become familiar with local high school athletic programs.

Soccer Camps

• Las Cruces High School: June 22-24
• Organ Mountain High School: June 29-July 1

Football Camps

• Centennial High School: June 22-25 (Grades 1-8), 9AM to NOON (Register Here)

New Community Space Expands Summer Programming

In addition to school-sponsored camps, a newly opened Las Cruces business is offering a variety of youth-focused summer programs that blend athletics, arts and personal development.

According to reporting by Kurt Johnson of the Las Cruces Bulletin, The Destination Sports & Arts Complex grew from a family effort to create training and rehearsal space for their children before evolving into a broader community resource. The facility combines athletic training areas, performance spaces and creative studios designed to support a wide range of activities. As owner Joe Castillo told the Bulletin, “We know that the more positive activity a child has, the better the outcome. We want kids to feel safe. We want them to have interests. We want them to have a place to go.”

This summer, The Destination is offering several specialized programs focused on sports training, performing arts and youth enrichment.

Programs range from baseball and softball skills development to theater instruction, conditioning training, arts activities and introductory music experiences.

More Than Summer Recreation

While the camps differ in focus, organizers across the community share a common goal: providing positive opportunities for young people during the summer months.

Many programs emphasize teamwork, communication, leadership, problem-solving and confidence-building alongside sport-specific or creative instruction. Educators and youth development professionals often point to these experiences as valuable opportunities for students to explore interests, build friendships and develop skills that extend beyond the summer season.
