Law enforcement officers from across the Borderland recently participated in advanced active-threat response training designed to strengthen coordination during critical incidents.
The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) exercise was hosted June 4-5 at Santa Teresa Middle School and brought together personnel from U.S. Customs and Border Protection along with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, including the Sunland Park Police Department.

According to participating agencies, the training simulated high-threat and active-shooter scenarios requiring officers from multiple jurisdictions to work together under a unified command structure. The exercises focused on rapid threat containment, interagency communication and coordinated emergency response.
Sunland Park Police officials said the training helps prepare officers to respond effectively to critical incidents while improving coordination with partner agencies throughout the region.
CBP officials noted that the scenarios emphasized preserving life, protecting the public and strengthening regional response capabilities. The training also provided an opportunity for agencies that may be called upon to respond together during an emergency to practice working as a single team.
Officials said ongoing training and collaboration remain important components of public safety preparedness for schools and communities across southern New Mexico.
