A member of the New Mexico National Guard is adding “published author” to her list of accomplishments.
Sgt. Justyce Gould, a culinary specialist assigned to the 996th Quartermaster Detachment (Field Feeding Team), recently published her book, The Hidden Cost of Discipleship: What They Don’t Tell You About Following Jesus.
The New Mexico National Guard recognized Gould’s achievement this week, congratulating the soldier on reaching the publishing milestone. In addition to her military service, Gould has spoken publicly about the book, describing it as a personal exploration of the challenges and sacrifices that can accompany a life of Christian faith.

According to the book’s description, The Hidden Cost of Discipleship examines what wholehearted discipleship requires and encourages readers to consider the personal commitment involved in following Christ.
While members of the military are often recognized for their service in uniform, Gould’s accomplishment highlights another side of military life—one that includes creative pursuits, education and personal growth beyond their official duties.
The New Mexico National Guard congratulated Sgt. Gould on the publication of her book and celebrated the achievement as another example of the diverse talents found within its ranks.
