ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Medical professionals from the New Mexico Army National Guard’s Medical Detachment provided hands-on first-aid instruction to students participating in the Governor’s Summer Challenge Program at Kennedy Middle School here June 17.
Students rotated through training stations covering bleeding control, tourniquet application, manual blood pressure measurement, and basic injury management, gaining practical skills that could help them respond during emergencies.

The training was conducted in support of the Governor’s Summer Challenge Program and its cadre members: NMARNG Sgt. Brandy Valenzuela, a medic with the Office of the State Surgeon, and Sgt. Justice Koren, a motor transport operator with the 1115th Transportation Company, who lead daily operations at Kennedy Middle School.
New Mexico Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Enrique Quesada and NMARNG Pfc. Myra Ortega, with Drug Demand Reduction Outreach (DDRO), also supported the event.
