SANTA TERESA – Doña Ana County and the City of Sunland Park have launched a coordinated public safety initiative aimed at reducing illegal shooting activity, criminal trespassing and other safety concerns near the Doña Ana County International Jetport in Santa Teresa.
The initiative brings together the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police and the Sunland Park Police Department, which are conducting joint patrols along NM 136 near the area locally known as “The Wall.” Officials emphasized that the area is privately owned and reminded residents and visitors to respect posted no trespassing signs and comply with all applicable firearms laws.

County officials said the effort follows ongoing complaints from nearby residents about stray bullets, loud explosions and repeated trespassing on private property. During a news conference, officials said the initiative is intended to improve safety for surrounding neighborhoods, businesses and airport operations while protecting private property.
Law enforcement agencies are currently focusing on public education, informing visitors about criminal trespass laws and responsible firearm use. Officials said the effort will transition to increased enforcement, with citations issued for violations on posted private property. Additional surveillance technology is also being deployed to assist investigations and improve accountability.
Officials stressed that the initiative is not directed at lawful firearm ownership but rather at protecting families, respecting private property and improving public safety as the Santa Teresa area continues to grow. They encouraged the public to report suspicious activity and work with law enforcement to help keep the area safe.
