Mesilla Valley Concert Band Celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary

LAS CRUCES — The Mesilla Valley Concert Band celebrated America’s 250th Anniversary with its annual Independence Day concert Saturday morning, drawing a packed audience for a patriotic performance.

Guest conductor Dr. Steven Smyth led the concert, which featured a program honoring the nation’s history and Independence Day traditions.

A highlight of the performance was Del Hansen’s recitation of Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, adding a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln during the holiday celebration.
