AS CRUCES, N.M. – Students participating in the LCPS/Gadsden TRIO Upward Bound Summer College Academyrecently received a hands-on introduction to careers in hospitality through activities hosted by the New Mexico State University School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.
During the program, students explored a variety of topics related to the hospitality industry, including career opportunities, professional development, dining and business etiquette, kitchen and food safety, budgeting and creative food presentation. The interactive activities gave participants an opportunity to develop practical skills while learning about professions in one of New Mexico’s largest service industries.

Photos shared by the university show students decorating donuts as part of a food presentation exercise, combining creativity with lessons in plating and presentation. Other activities focused on workplace expectations and foundational skills used throughout the hospitality and restaurant professions.
University officials thanked the administrators of the TRIO Upward Bound program for the opportunity to participate in the Summer College Academy and recognized the students for their enthusiasm throughout the program.
