LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Las Cruces Public Schools is encouraging parents and guardians to take advantage of a new online safety resource that explains how some smartphone applications can be used to conceal photos, messages and other digital content from parents.

According to an announcement by Kelly Jameson of Las Cruces Public Schools, the resource is intended to help families better understand so-called “vault” applications, which are often disguised as everyday apps while providing additional privacy features. The district said the information is designed to help parents recognize potential warning signs, encourage healthy conversations about responsible technology use and support safe online habits for children and teenagers.

The online guide also discusses broader digital safety topics, including recognizing potentially risky online behavior and knowing when parents should seek additional assistance if they suspect online exploitation, harassment or other serious safety concerns.
Las Cruces Public Schools said the information is part of an ongoing series of online safety resources made available through its partnership with POMS Risk Control & Insurance. The district has also provided both English- and Spanish-language versions of the guide for families.
Parents interested in reviewing the complete resource can find it through the Las Cruces Public Schools website.
