SANTA FE – Fourteen young leaders from across New Mexico have completed the inaugural year of the Land of Enchantment Young Ambassadors program, contributing thousands of volunteer hours to community beautification projects across the state.
The program, created through a collaboration between the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Governor’s Office as part of NMDOT’s Qué Linda initiative, encourages youth to take an active role in improving their communities through service and environmental stewardship.

During the program’s first year, the 14 ambassadors mobilized 338 volunteers and helped remove 15,240 pounds of litterfrom roadways and public spaces throughout New Mexico. According to NMDOT, those efforts supplemented the year-round cleanup work performed by the department’s maintenance crews.
State transportation officials thanked the inaugural class of Young Ambassadors for their commitment to keeping New Mexico clean and helping preserve the natural beauty that inspired the state’s nickname, the Land of Enchantment.
