Several White Sands Missile Range employees were recognized during an Honors and Retirement Ceremony July 8 at the Post Theater.

WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. Andrew R. Morgan welcomed honorees to the recognition event.

“The work happening here at White Sands Missile Range carries presidential level priority for the protection of the homeland,” Morgan said. “The countless hours that you’ve put in, the stress, and the compressed timelines, the ingenuity that you’ve shown under pressure has all paid off and Live Fire Test 26 was a resounding success because of you.”

The June 23 Live Fire Test event, hosted by WSMR, featured five directed-energy systems representing the latest developments in U.S. laser and high-power microwave technology. According to the Pentagon, the successful demonstrations highlighted the growing role of directed-energy technologies in future missile defense and air defense operations.

During the Honors and Retirement ceremony Morgan and WSMR Command Sgt. Maj. Hermes Acevedo then handed out certificates for length of service awards ranging from 20 to 40 years of service, and Civilian Service Commendation Medals.

“You’ve earned an enduring role in shaping the future of this range and our nation’s defense for the next generation,” Morgan said.

David Salas was honored for his retirement after 39 years of service. He was an employee at Range Operations. He was a vital member of the Data Reduction team in Range Operations. He was a chair member of the Range Commanders Council for 19 years.
