LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists to make responsible transportation plans before consuming alcohol as deputies conduct sobriety checkpoints throughout the month of July.
The checkpoints are part of the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety throughout Doña Ana County.
Officials encourage anyone planning to drink alcohol to arrange a safe ride home in advance by designating a sober driver, using a rideshare service or taxi, or making other transportation arrangements.
The Sheriff’s Office said impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable crashes and emphasized that planning ahead can help protect drivers, passengers and others who share the road.
“Our goal is to help keep our roads safe for everyone,” the Sheriff’s Office said in its reminder to motorists.
