LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Security upgrades are planned at Las Cruces fire stations following the allocation of $72,000 in state funding during the 2026 legislative session.
According to the City of Las Cruces, the funding will be used to enhance safety and security at fire stations through upgraded access control systems, expanded exterior monitoring, and new security fencing. City officials said the improvements are intended to better protect firefighters, staff, emergency vehicles and facilities while reducing the risk of unauthorized access, vehicle thefts and other security concerns.

The City requested legislative support for the project as part of its efforts to strengthen public safety infrastructure and improve the protection of first responders who serve the community.
City officials recognized State Rep. Micaela Lara Cadena for securing the $72,000 appropriation, saying the investment will help improve safety for personnel who work at Las Cruces fire stations every day.
