The Bureau of Land Management is reminding visitors to keep safety in focus while enjoying public lands this summer, urging hikers, campers and sightseers not to risk injury in pursuit of the perfect photograph.
Agency officials said visitors should remain aware of their surroundings at all times, whether they are near wildlife, water, roadways or steep cliffs. Many BLM-managed areas are located in remote parts of southern New Mexico, where emergency assistance may be limited and help is not always immediately available.
The BLM also encourages visitors to respect public lands by avoiding actions that could damage plants, wildlife or other natural resources while taking photographs. Officials said no picture is worth risking personal safety or harming the landscapes and wildlife that make public lands worth visiting.
