For years, many Aggie athletes were known to Las Cruces residents only by what they accomplished on the field or court. Today, that picture continues to change as New Mexico State’s athletic programs increasingly become visible throughout our broader community, building relationships that extend well beyond game day.
The latest example came this week when members of the NM State women’s basketball team visited residents at the Munson Senior Center. In a social media post, the program said the team “had a great time giving back to our community and meeting fans at Munson Senior Center,” sharing photographs from the visit with residents and staff.
The appearance adds to a growing list of community outreach efforts highlighted by NM State Athletics over the past year. From student-athletes recognized for outstanding volunteer service to teams logging hundreds of hours in community projects, Aggie programs have increasingly embraced opportunities to connect with schools, nonprofits and community organizations throughout Las Cruces. While wins and losses will always define athletic seasons, these quieter moments help strengthen the connection between the university and the community it represents.
