The Sunland Park Police Department has added a new K-9 team to its ranks following the successful completion of a three-month K-9 Academy in Virginia. Sgt. Duran and his new partner, K-9 Simi, recently completed the intensive training program and are now prepared to begin serving the community.

K-9 Simi, a German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, completed extensive training alongside Sgt. Duran as the pair developed the skills needed for law enforcement operations. The department said the new team will play an important role in supporting public safety efforts in Sunland Park.

Department officials congratulated Sgt. Duran on completing the academy and welcomed K-9 Simi as the department’s newest four-legged officer.
