Church Commends City Streets Crew for Drainage Project

As part of the city’s ongoing “Cariño” employee recognition program, officials shared a letter from First Presbyterian Church of Las Cruces thanking the Streets Division for refurbishing a French drain along Jones Road.

The City of Las Cruces recently recognized members of its Public Works/Streets Division after a local church praised the department’s work restoring a long-neglected drainage system that had contributed to flooding on the property.

As part of the city’s ongoing “Cariño” employee recognition program, officials shared a letter from First Presbyterian Church of Las Cruces thanking the Streets Division for refurbishing a French drain along Jones Road. According to the church, years of accumulated silt had rendered the drain ineffective, resulting in periodic flooding of the church parking lot.

“On behalf of The First Presbyterian Church of Las Cruces, I want to thank your Public Works/Streets Department for their outstanding work refurbishing the French drain along our property on Jones Road.

Over a period of many years the drain filled with silt and became inoperative as a drain, resulting in the flooding of our parking lot. We met with Jimmy Moreno and Kyle Arend earlier this year, who assessed our concern and committed to its repair.

On June 8 work began, and by June 17 work had been completed in a thorough and professional manner. Nightly visits showed the area was clean, caution signs and tape were deployed as required, and the parking lot, when needed, could still be used for church functions.

One last note. If a church committee member stopped by during the day, the onsite Public Works employee, Rudy, always took the extra time to explain the repair process, what they had done and what still needed to be done. Whatever it meant to him, it was very much appreciated by us.
