Las Cruces, NM – Drake Armendariz has pleaded guilty in connection with Benjamin Archuleta’s March 3, 2023, murder on Interstate 25 near mile marker 8 in Doña Ana County. As part of a plea agreement, Armendariz pleaded guilty to one count of First-Degree Murder, and the remaining charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to 30 years in the New Mexico Corrections Department, with 16 years suspended, resulting in 14 years of incarceration. He will also receive credit for time served.
This case stemmed from a relentless investigation by New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents after Archuleta was fatally shot while driving south on Interstate 25. Through diligent investigative work, agents were able to arrest Armendariz just days after the homicide.
While no sentence can undo the pain caused by this senseless act of violence, today’s conviction represents accountability and reflects the unwavering commitment of the New Mexico State Police to pursue justice for victims and their families.
