Vehicle Strikes Gas Meter, Damages Fence Before Leaving Scene in Sunland Park

According to the Sunland Park Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of Colorado, where they found the damaged gas meter actively leaking.

Emergency crews responded to a reported vehicle crash involving a residence Thursday after a vehicle struck a gas meter and fence before leaving the scene.

According to the Sunland Park Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of Colorado, where they found the damaged gas meter actively leaking.

Fire personnel secured the scene and successfully plugged the gas leak without incident, preventing any further hazard. Once the leak was contained, the scene was turned over to New Mexico Gas Company for repairs.

The vehicle involved in the collision had left the area before emergency responders arrived.

The Sunland Park Police Department is investigating the hit-and-run incident.

No injuries were reported.
